DESOTO ECONOMICS FIRST!

We need to focus on growing DeSoto’s economy organically.

What does Organic Economics mean?

Organic = having systematic coordination of parts.  or  Forming an integral element of a whole.

Economics = a social science concerned chiefly with description and analysis of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.

Let me start by saying this:  I only want the best for DeSoto.  I care about DeSoto and I believe that the citizens should have a say-so in the direction and big decisions made for the city.  Here, I will share my ideas however; when and if elected I will welcome the input of the citizens to improve any plans.

Once elected, I encourage any DeSoto citizen that has an idea or solution to improve our city to email me your idea at towinwithken@gmail.com.  Who knows, your idea could be one that we never thought about and it could be the best thing for DeSoto.  Submitting a legitimate idea is doing something for your city.  The only thing that I ask is that you please put your first and last name in your email so that I can notify you if we implement your idea.

The saying goes “The first step to solving a problem is to first realize that you have one”.  This being the case, I first want to expose one of the most important underlying problems that I see here in DeSoto.  This has been a festering problem every since I moved here over twenty years ago.  This underlying problem silently affects most every aspect of our lives here in DeSoto.  In my opinion, DeSoto’s future ability to have any true sustainable economic development depends on it.  To solve this underlying problem it will take a community-wide group approach.  This means getting not only the City Council members on the same page but also to get the community to understand the severity of the problem as well.  This will take an ongoing campaign of awareness to achieve properly.

With our city’s limited land space we need to focus primarily on commercial economic development with the local business owners and local workers being our top priority.  With a special focus on the ones that live here in DeSoto.  At the same time, our city council needs to zone and rezone all future land development to be in alignment with this focus.  This will allow our city to “breath” without being beholden to more houses.  This also will reduce our city’s economic life blood, which is our citizen’s disposable dollars, from being spent primarily outside of our city.  If implemented correctly, this will stop or severely slow down the economic bleed, maintain or lower the property tax burden and will put more money in the community’s pockets causing all aspects of DeSoto to improve with the locals winning.
